Pecori Japanese Egg Restaurant - Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa

Visited a cat cafe for the first time! Apparently it is the first cat cafe that opened in Singapore. We have been planning to go there for quite some time so I was really looking forward to it! Before that we dined at Pecori Japanese Egg Restaurant, which replaced the former Japanese curry shop. Our intentions were to have some Indian curry, but ended up for some Japanese curry instead. One of my favourite Japanese restaurants originally located beside that curry shop has closed down.. The days I would order my favourite gindara (cod fish) and dine with my dad.

Free Flow of Salad, Soup and Water

The price includes GST and comes with free flow of soup, salad and a drink (water/ coffee)! Perfect for guys as it will leave you so full! I was expecting the salad to be bland and dry, but the garlic ponzu dressing lights up the whole dish. The soup was kind of disappointing. Supposedly there are different soups for different days, being turnip soup for Wednesdays. However it seems like chicken powered soup rather.  


Tonkotsu Demi Omu (S$16.80)


Tonkotsu Spicy Tomato Omu Rice (S$14.80)

The egg was perfectly cooked and slightly raw over the surface! I actually like the spicy tomato sauce, which is in fact curry, than the demi glace sauce. Maybe because hamburgs are always drizzled in demi glace sauce. There was also Pork Tonkotsu Japanese Ankake Omu Rice for the same price, $16.80. The difference is that ankake refers to mushroom sauce while demi glace sauce relates to beef. Apart from the above sauces, there are cream sauce and roast omu rice. Who knows omu rice can have so many variations!

My first cat cafe experience! I have always yearned to go to one! Warning, cat heavy pictures.



A $12 cover charge for the first hour, followed by $5 for subsequent half hours. No requirements on mandatory drink/ dessert purchases which were available at the premises. Before heading inside, we were advised to remove our shoes and sanitise our hands. We were also given a pamphlet that guided us to some of the rules, such as not waking up a sleeping cat or disturbing it having its meals. Flipping the page were short introductions about each cat!



Baloo:




Baloo is so huge!! Possibly the largest cat we have seen? And when he shuts his beautiful green eyes for a nap, you can hardly discern his face with his little black nose!

Miley:


Miley is so pretty!! But she seems afraid of humans so we gave her some space.



A tunnel specially made for the cats! So the cats have the freedom to escape from the cat-hungry human beings.

Jia Jia:

I was wondering what was Jia Jia looking at through the hole and it ends up to be.. Miley. They were just staring at each other. What were they thinking?

Kai Kai and Jia Jia are siblings! Reminds us of the two pandas in the zoo. Kai Kai is always looking wide-eyed in curiosity!

We didn't notice Emma and Luna at all, snuggled up together in the tallest room of the tower, sleeping oh so soundly! Everyone was going 'aww'...

I hope Luna was not abused! All these cats are adopted and I am glad they are in a safe and friendly environment now.

Each cat responds when the owner (I assume) calls their names! Apparently, it does not work when we call out for them as the cats recognise the voice. We were so amazed. He would kindly call out their name so that the cats will be facing the camera when we are snapping pictures. Its a relief that the cats seem to be treated well, which I was previously worried they would be stressed being around so many different humans all day.

It was a joy being at the cafe. A great place to simply chill and have a chat around the cats rather than ordering a beer at the bars downstairs. Not forgetting they also have cat merchandises for sale from collars to the cafe's cat magnets. I have even changed my desktop background to the cute cat wallpaper available for download on their website!

Have been busy the past week preparing for an interview and got an offer! Hopefully the approval process will be smooth and successful. Another farewell brunch for my friend on Thursday. Doing her last minute shopping - we spent an hour at Dhoby Ghaut's J-Runway picking out accessories!

Got this pair of earrings of $5, what a deal! Hashtag thrifty. It was on sale as the piercing was slightly crooked. After purchasing it I simply adjusted the piercing with some pressure and it's fixed!

Dazzling Cafe's Pretty Set of Menu

Nestled behind the neo-classical Capitol Theatre, we were greeted by a whiff of construction paint. Still, the ready-seen architecture was definitely impressive and instagram-worthy. Turning round the corner revealed paints in hues of tiffany blue and pristine white - the cafe was a delight to look at! From rabbit-eared chairs to the cafe's menu, everything was immaculate.


Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast - S$19.90

My friends know I hate bread, finding it bland and dry. I have been avoiding these "toast boxes" ever since I tried Sydney's ZenQ. This one was different! The honey toast was soft and slightly sweet to taste, infused with chocolate chips! Generously smothered with cream, strawberries and topped with vanilla ice cream that had a hint of mint. The portion was definitely enough for 2, leaving us bloated and too full to move.


Pan Seared Duck Breast Spaghetti in Orange Mustard Sauce - S$24.90



I honestly was not expecting much from the cafe's pastas, having read reviews and such. Not only so, prices were steep, which was understandable with its strategic location. The duck was meh, not cooked well at all, tasted old. What I really enjoyed about this dish was the orange mustard sauce! It was a first for me in having such a sweet and unique combination for a pasta, as opposed to my usual orders of seafood oglio olios. The downside is its portion being tiny. Possibly a marketing technique to order a dessert off the menu?

Finally caught with a friend with a 9-year friendship still going strong! We have a death-note diary we pass between us all these 9 whole years! This diary is still in excellent condition, and we actually could keep this up even with me being overseas studying. How could this happen? Friendship goal attained.

Kind of clueless what to munch till we came across a $6.90 student deal for drink, soup and...bread. I was mistaken the store would serve rice too. I am a fan of soups, anyhow, and ordered the Tokyo Chicken Stew and Masala Wrap for an additional $2.50. Everything was mediocre, and the masala wrap being green.. Time to head back to Soup Stock Tokyo!
