Ah Loy Thai - Llao Llao

Meeting at the same place and again being 40 minutes late! That is how long my bus takes to come once I miss it (dreadful). Sincere apologies!!

Dinner:
Ah Loy Thai at Shaw Towers

Ah Loy Thai Menu - Find the misspelled word!

Lemon Grass Steamed Fish (Spicy)

We dined at Ah Loy Thai, which I got lost trying to find the place sadly. Last orders for food, including drinks at 7.30pm. How early is that! I can't comprehend why a restaurant with bustling business doesn't want to grow their wealth with an additional 2 hours a day. Perhaps it is a lifestyle choice. When I reached, food were all readily displayed on the table.. It must be hard for my friend to be staring at them all the while.

We went for Thai Lemon Grass Steamed Fish, requesting for less spicy. Fortunately it was edible, unlike other restaurants that seem to ignore your demands to leave my mouth burning and my stomach bloated with water.. The broth was up to standards and immersed with steamed fish and noodles. 3-in-1 much? We also had Thai Milk (Red) Tea which was good, ethically not drowned in ice. The Fried Sweet Potato Leaves are well-cooked but your average stir-fried vegetables. 2 dishes and rice are sufficient, even though the waitress tried to coax us into getting more.

Sanum - Frozen Yogurt with Caramelised Cookies, Strawberries, Watermelon, Rockmelon and Milk Candy Sauce

Finally I get to try the famed Llao Llao. Pronounced 'yao yao', which is quite..amusing. The queue is not as bad as the one at Somerset, but horrifically slow-moving for a yogurt shop. Possibly based on my comparisons to Sydney. We were observing people attempting the ufo catcher for alpacas in the gaming center directly opposite the store. Apparently, the worker was teaching the teens how to win the prize in one go. Served great entertainment for us in the queue.

Llao Llao tastes like Noggi (Sydney yogurt chain), no doubt. Both brands even use the same colors - white and green to market themselves. Are they essentially the same company with different names? We ordered the Sanum, a yogurt parfait with 5 toppings in total comprising of a crunch topping, 3 fruits and sauce of choice. Having worked at a yogurt shop, Yogurberry in Sydney previously, the price difference was rather drastic. A Sanum ($6.50) would cost about $13-$16 in Australia's Korean yogurt franchises, as pricings are by weight. The texture of the yogurt is smooth and well, solidly rich, unlike the one I tried at PoMo's Nookie Yogurt the other day. Nookie Yogurt has a fixed menu with a range of signature yogurts. The yogurt served to us has already melted with a 'loose' texture, which means the machine did not keep the yogurt cold enough. We tried the mango sticky rice froyo by the way. It is understandable why Llao Llao is popular, but as I said, wait for the nitrogen ice creams to arrive in Singapore.
