Banana Tree - World Street Food Congress 2015 - Yogurberry

Recently, I have been missing my buses by literally half a minute to end up waiting for at least half an hour. The worst thing is Ada arrived an hour early and me, almost an hour late. She painfully waited at the cafe for my arrival and the waitresses were kind enough to let her be there without ordering anything.

Apparently this cafe is rather famous in Korea, so glad they opened a branch in Singapore! We read online about customers waiting for at least an hour for their orders, but that is not true. Or maybe, because it is a weekday. The cafe was rather empty and the wait upon ordering was merely 5 minutes. However, the Banana Flower Paap was already sold out at 4pm at the store so thankfully Ada managed the grab 1 beforehand. The other flavour for the Flower Paap was Espresso, which I was actually not keen about at all. They offered me to try their new Strawberry Flower Paap that has yet to be listed on the menu, thank god! Both Banana and Strawberry flavours were good! The banana was more 'smashed' to integrate with the cream while the Strawberry Flower Paap felt like bits of strawberry shortcake with cream.

The Som Som Latte looked cute and fluffy with the candy floss, which melted rather quickly. Otherwise its just your daily coffee with a tiny hint of banana. Worth the order for instagram fanatics possibly.

World Street Food Congress 2015 at Bugis

World Street Food Congress 2015

I was gazing outside the bus window when I saw ads of this food congress along Orchard Road. It is a 4 day event from 8th to 12th April organised by Makansutra, and we made it to the first day! We chatted with a Singaporean couple while having our meal there and heard this is actually the first time having such an event. It was definitely nostalgic for me and Ada as it resembles the food markets in Sydney.

'Dai-Pai-Dong' Street Food Demo Station

This is where we have been mostly sticking around at throughout the event, watching the food demos and sampling free food. The rest are mainly food outlets of different cuisines hailing from various countries. Most of them are priced $6 or $10.

Food-Demo of Punggol Mee Goreng

Punggol Mee Goreng Free Tasting

Well, if you are after the free tasting, you got to be standing there watching the whole food demo instead of just being after the food.

Seatings

Seatings are provided but rather packed at times. There are picnic mats sold at the card sales store (but no one gets them).

Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Community, Culture and Youth

Minister-made Roti John

Our favourite has to be the Roti John! A very simple and delicious dish, definitely great for breakfasts! We managed to sample one of the few Roti Johns made by the minister. He was really smiley, friendly and eye candy for Ada. We could tell he hardly cooks with the way he uses the knife and being afraid of oil..but he did it! The bread was really crunchy, not spicy at all even with the chilli paste. Who came up with this perfect combination with eggs and onions! Even a 'bread-hater' like me enjoyed it. Props for this event!

Yogurberry at Bugis Junction

Original Froyo with Chocolate Chips, Colourful Sprinkles and Lychee/ Mango Popping Bobas

I was very surprised to know there's a Yogurberry outlet in Singapore and its exactly the same one in Sydney! Fyi, I worked part-time at the Yogurberry store near my university in Sydney. Ada made this so colourful! Usually I get my favourite taro froyo with mochi toppings. Self service and price by weight - the essence of Korean froyo outlets.
